Great Wall Overview

A comprehensive guide to the Great Wall of China, one of the world's most iconic landmarks.

The Great Wall is an ancient military defense project in China, one of the greatest buildings in the world, and a World Cultural Heritage site. Construction of the Great Wall began during the Spring and Autumn Period and Warring States Period. After unifying China, Emperor Qin Shi Huang connected the walls of various states to form the foundation of the Great Wall.

The existing Great Wall was mainly built during the Ming Dynasty, stretching over 21,000 kilometers. It is a symbol of the Chinese nation and a source of pride. The Great Wall is not only a defense project but also a crystallization of the wisdom and courage of the ancient Chinese working people.

The Great Wall is one of the Eight Wonders of the World. From its construction to final completion, it took more than two thousand years, making it a unique spectacle in human history. The Beijing section of the Great Wall is divided into eight sections, with Badaling Great Wall, Juyongguan Great Wall, and Mutianyu Great Wall being the most famous.

Recommended Tour Route

Badaling is the most famous section of the Great Wall both at home and abroad. Divided by the Guan City into "north and south sections," the northern section is the essence of Badaling Great Wall, featuring 12 watchtowers. Among them, North Tower 8 is the highest watchtower in elevation and the best place to overlook the Great Wall. The southern section has 7 watchtowers and features a gentler terrain. The most famous attraction in Badaling is the "Hero Slope" where there's a saying "He who has not climbed the Great Wall is not a true hero." In addition, you can also visit the Museum of the Great Wall of China.
